Description

Testing new micro maps in pre-season

Main goals for season 2

  • Be purely about unit micro (No mind games)
  • Easy for new authors
  • Have enough depth to be easy to jump in but hard to master
  • Reasonably balanced matchups
  • Bot with better micro wins

Maps

  • Map 1 consists of tier 1 units (with the exclusion of sentry) and small scale skirmishes
  • Map 2 has tier 1 and 2 units and tier 2 upgrades, but without actual air attacking units
  • Full description of the new maps

Rules

  • Each map has 5 pairs of rounds to a total of 10 round
  • Each round has an attacker and a defender and each bot plays attacker and defender on each pair
  • Round has a time limit of 1 minute which is reset when a unit is killed
  • Bot without combat units loses the round
  • Defender wins the round when timer hits 0
  • in the case of double KO, both bots get 1 point
  • Bot with more points after 10 rounds wins the map.
  • There is a small delay between each round which bots can use to detect the winner of the round
  • It's OK to wait for the attacker to attack as defender, but please do not try to invent ridiculous ways of abusing the timer system to win without fighting.

Schedule

We expect the testing to last around 3-4 weeks. We'll first test with map 1 that we've managed to test quite thoroughly and add in map 2 at around half point into the mix.
